In 2024, a biopic on legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja was officially announced, with Kollywood star Dhanush set to portray him. Rumours suggested that the project was shelved due to Dhanush’s commitments to Idly Kadai and Aanand L Rai’s Tere Ishq Mein. However, Hindustan Times has confirmed that these claims are false, and the biopic is still moving forward.

According to film industry sources, a major Tamil production house has teamed up with Connekkt Media to back the Ilaiyaraaja biopic. Sources told Hindustan Times, “Well known producers AGS Entertainment have partnered with Connekkt Media to produce the Ilaiyaraaja biopic. And the script of the film is ready and the movie is in the pre-production stage.”

The sources declined to share further details about the production timeline but suggested that filming is expected to begin once Dhanush finishes his current projects.

The Ilaiyaraaja biopic has generated significant excitement, with both the audience and Dhanush fans eagerly awaiting its release. Ilaiyaraaja’s remarkable career and life story promise to offer a captivating narrative, showcasing achievements that remain unmatched to this day.

AGS Entertainment achieved massive success with The GOAT, starring Thalapathy Vijay and directed by Venkat Prabhu, which grossed over ₹450 crore worldwide in 2024. The production house is now preparing for the release of Loveyapa on February 7, a Hindi remake of the 2022 hit Love Today. The film stars Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan, and Khushi Kapoor, daughter of the late Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor. AGS is also producing Dragon, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and featuring actor-director Pradeep Ranganathan.
