EXCLUSIVE: Mahesh Babu’s Telugu blockbuster Dookudu set for a Hindi remake with Eros : Bollywood News

Telugu megastar, Mahesh Babu celebrates his 45th birthday today and on this special occasion, Bollywood Hungama has exclusively heard that his 2011 blockbuster, Dookudu is set to get a Hindi remake. Eros International, who has got back in the business with international funding, has bagged the rights for a hefty sum and is planning to roll it sometime next year once the script is adapted for the Hindi speaking audience.

“After Pokiri, Dookudu is among the most loved films of Mahesh Babu down South, and the premise stands a potential to be remade in Hindi. Back in the past, the remake of the film was planned with actors like Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn, but things didn’t materialize. However, finally, it’s set for a Hindi remake with a top star,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.

While no director has signed on at the moment, an inhouse team is working towards developing the script and the talks are also on to get a top commercial director, primarily known for his comedies. “It’s too early to name the director at the moment, but once things come closer to being locked, the cat will be out of the bag,” the source added.

In Dookudu, Mahesh Babu played the character of IPS G Ajay Kumar, pitted against Sonu Sood, who played Nayak. The premise is a fight against the mafia in Mumbai involved in drug trade, extortion and arms trafficking.

Dookudu was among the biggest openers of all time back then in Telugu cinema and was a comeback of sorts for Mahesh Babu after a five year slump at the box-office. It turned around things for him by being a game changer and put him in the top bracket of stars again. 9 years later, it is remembered as one of the biggest hits in the history of Telugu cinema, as also Mahesh Babu.
