Adivi Sesh is gearing up for the release of his much talked-about Dacoit: A Love Story on Christmas this year. But there is another reason why 2025 is special for him. He is all set to complete 15 years in the film industry. His debut film as the main lead Karma, which he also wrote and directed, had released in 2010.
In a recent exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Adivi looked back at the 15 years of his career. “I think I spent six years learning what the industry was because I was such a rank outsider when I first moved to India to be an actor,” he said. “I have quite enjoyed my journey from 2016, when my first hit as a lead actor released, Kshanam.”
It is rare for a debutant main lead to also write and direct the project. Asked about taking on three major roles in his first film itself, Adivi said, “I’ve always said I’m an effective actor, a good writer and a hit or miss director. The directing largely happened because I didn’t know anyone and I didn’t know how to audition, which is a special talent in itself, and something I believe… that has nothing to do with actually performing in a film. I clearly know that my writing has been in service of my career as an actor. I’d like to believe that I have good taste.”
Adivi Sesh was born in Hyderabad but was raised in California, USA. He later moved to India to work in films over here. When asked when exactly did he feel that he should have a career in movies in India, he said, “I think I was about 12 when I realized that there wasn’t really a Brown Tom Cruise in Hollywood. I identified with Indian film and Indian emotions. I loved Hindi and Telugu movies equally and they almost felt sweeter. Like one of your own. I knew right then that I was going to go make movies in India.”
Apart from Dacoit, Adivi also has Goodachari 2 lined up.
