Fresh off the success of his mythological action epic HanuMan, director Prasanth Varma is reflecting on his journey and making bold statements about his plans. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Varma candidly discussed his initial experiences with waiting for top stars like Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, and Jr NTR, his current focus on independent storytelling, and his decision to decline Bollywood offers for now.
Warming up to talk about working with established names, Varma admitted, “I'm not against working with stars. But it often takes time. I spent a lot of it waiting for a few stars. It wasn't productive. So, I've decided to set deadlines. Even if Tom Cruise comes after my deadline, I'll move forward with who I have. I'm here to tell stories, not just wait for star power.” He revealed approaching Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Allu Arjun in the past, highlighting the challenges of their busy schedules and his desire to prioritise timely storytelling.
Varma shed light on the communication styles of stars, sharing, “Many don't say 'no' directly, but the message is usually clear. Initially, I was confused when someone praised my story then disappeared. Now, I understand the pressures they face.” With HanuMan crossing Rs 250 crores globally, Bollywood offers naturally followed. However, Varma remains focused on his next film, stating, “I already had a plan for after HanuMan. Now, I'll have to excuse myself from many opportunities to stick to that.”
Varma also addressed the reason actor Nani ultimately opted out of his planned project Awe 2. He explained, “Nani believes in launching new talent. He felt I was already established and shouldn't be relaunched. He wanted to use that platform for another director. I respect his decision and will do Awe 2 independently at some point.”
