Among many films that are being rereleased in theatres was also the 1998 film Tholi Prema featuring Pawan Kalyan and Keerthi Reddy, which will be completing 25 years of release this year. On the special occasion, director of the film A. Karunakaran recalled an interesting incident which involved Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his wife and yesteryear actress Jaya Bachchan.

In an event, A. Karunakaran opened about an incident that was revealed to him by the superstar Amitabh Bachchan himself where the latter had described his experience of watching Tholi Prema. It seems that Big B was so flustered because of the hero’s refusal to confess his love for the leading lady that he threw his keys towards the screen in frustration. Karunakaran reminisced about the incident saying, “The climax of Tholi Prema generates tremendous tension among the audience as the hero refrains from expressing his love until the end. While watching the climax, Amitabh ji became irritated and impulsively tossed his car keys at the TV screen due to the hero’s delayed confession.”

Furthermore he went on to add how Jaya Bachchan reacted to the film, as he continued, “Jaya Bachchan ji, who was viewing the film alongside him, expressed her delight and applauded when the heroine returned.” Karunakaran, later, revealed that Big B had confessed about the incident when he bumped into the megastar during an event in Chennai.

Tholi Prema (First Love) released in 1998 to rave reviews and remains to be one of the most popular films in Telugu Cinema. It even went on to also win a National Award for Best Telugu film. For the unversed, the Telugu romantic film was remade in Hindi as Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai in 2001 and it marked the debut of Jitendra’s son Tusshar Kapoor, who featured alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan in the film.
