The ongoing divorce proceedings between Tamil actor-politician Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam have taken a new turn, with Sangeetha filing a fresh plea in court seeking permission to continue living in their matrimonial home until the case is resolved.
According to reports, Sangeetha has approached a family court in Chengalpattu district in Tamil Nadu, requesting an interim order allowing her to stay at the couple’s residence in Neelankarai while the divorce proceedings are underway. The petition is part of the broader legal case she filed earlier this year seeking dissolution of their marriage. In her plea, Sangeetha stated that she should be allowed to reside in the matrimonial home or be provided with suitable alternative accommodation during the legal process. She also sought permanent alimony in line with Vijay’s financial standing.
The divorce petition, filed under the Special Marriage Act, alleges that the marriage has “irretrievably broken down.” Court documents also claim that the actor’s alleged extra-marital relationship caused “deep emotional pain and mental suffering, amounting to betrayal and violation of marital trust,” according to the petition. The couple, who have been married since 1999, share two children, son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Saasha. Their relationship began in the mid-1990s after Sangeetha, a Sri Lankan Tamil raised in the United Kingdom, met Vijay during the early years of his film career.
Reports suggest that the couple have been living separately for some time before the divorce filing. The matter is expected to be heard in court in the coming weeks as legal proceedings move forward.
