Veteran actor Vipin Sharma was honoured with the Best Supporting Actor award at the ASTAR Awards 2025, held in Bangkok. Known for his impactful roles in films like Taare Zameen Par and Gangs of Wasseypur, Sharma received the award for his powerful performance in Monkey Man, directed by Dev Patel.

In Monkey Man, Sharma portrayed Alpha, the head of a hijra (trans) community — a role that drew praise for its emotional depth and sensitivity. The actor said he felt humbled by the recognition and grateful that the film’s story connected with audiences around the world.
Speaking about the experience, Sharma shared that working with Dev Patel was transformative. “Dev trusted me with a role I will never forget. It changed me — as an actor and as a person,” he said. He also added that this award is a reminder of how cinema can cross boundaries and bring people together.
Presented by the International Institute of Film Science and Arts (IIFSA), the ASTAR Awards aim to celebrate global cinema and diverse talent. Vipin Sharma’s win marked a proud moment for Indian representation at the international level.
