After entertaining audiences for over two decades, SpongeBob SquarePants is gearing up for another big-screen outing with SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, and the voices behind the iconic characters say the magic of Bikini Bottom remains as strong as ever. Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), and Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs) recently spoke about returning to the beloved animated universe and what continues to make the franchise resonate across generations.

“SpongeBob is pure joy,” says Kenny. “Every time we come back to this world, it feels special, and this movie gives fans a bigger, funnier adventure to experience on the big screen.” That sense of scale, he notes, doesn’t come at the expense of what makes the series work. At its core, SpongeBob SquarePants remains rooted in warmth, silliness, and heart—qualities that continue to resonate with audiences young and old.

Fagerbakke agrees, emphasizing the universal appeal of the characters’ relationships. “What makes SpongeBob special is the friendship and humour,” he says. “This movie has all of that, and it’s something kids and adults can laugh at together.” The enduring bond between SpongeBob and Patrick, he adds, reflects the kind of uncomplicated, joyful friendship that audiences instinctively recognize and love.

For Brown, who has voiced Mr. Krabs since the series began, SpongeBob’s longevity comes down to its outlook on life. “SpongeBob has stayed relevant for so many years because of his optimism and heart,” he says. “This film celebrates that spirit in a fresh and exciting way.” As the franchise sails into its next cinematic chapter, the cast believes that same optimism will once again anchor the story—proving that no matter how much time passes, Bikini Bottom still feels like home.
