South Korean actor Song Joong Ki starrer noir film Hopeless and Song Kang Ho’s new black comedy Cobweb are set to get a screening at Cannes Film Festival 2023.
Song Joong Ki starrer noir film Hopeless and Song Kang Ho-led black comedy Cobweb to screen at Cannes Film Festival 2023According to the Korean tabloid Soompi, Hopeless (also called Hwaran) will be screening in the Un Certain Regard section at this year’s festival. The film stars Song Joong Ki—who chose to appear in the film for no pay—as a mobster who becomes entangled with a teenager (Hong Sa Bin) who is desperate to escape his hellish hometown.
The new film marks director Kim Chang Hoon’s feature film debut. Meanwhile, as the report shares, Kim Jee Woon’s upcoming black comedy Cobweb will be screening Out of Competition. The film stars Song Kang Ho as an obsessive film director of 1970’s, struggling to finish his new film. The film also stars Im Soo Jung, Jeon Yeo Been, f(x)’s Krystal, and Oh Jung Se.
This year’s Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 16 to 27. Previously in 2022, Song Kang Ho made history by becoming the first Korean male to win an acting award at the Cannes Film Festival. The actor was acclaimed for his starring performance in Broker.
