The horror spoof franchise Scary Movie is set to return to the big screen, with its latest instalment scheduled to release in India on June 12, 2026. Backed by Paramount Pictures India, the film brings together key members of its original cast nearly three decades after the first film redefined parody cinema.
Twenty-six years after they first encountered a masked killer resembling Ghostface, the core cast — Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris and Regina Hall — reunite to take on a new wave of horror tropes. The upcoming chapter promises to satirise everything from reboots and remakes to requels, prequels, spin-offs and so-called “final chapters,” continuing the franchise’s tradition of irreverent commentary on pop culture.
The film, directed by Michael Tiddes, positions itself as a broad spoof of contemporary horror trends, including elevated horror and legacy sequels. The makers suggest that no trope or franchise is off limits this time either, with the narrative once again leaning into exaggerated genre clichés and self-aware humour.
In addition to the returning leads, the ensemble cast includes Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro, Olivia Rose Keegan and Sydney Park, among others.
The trailer, which has been unveiled online, hints at a return to the franchise’s signature mix of slapstick, pop culture references and genre parody. Since its debut in 2000, Scary Movie has built a reputation for lampooning mainstream horror films and turning familiar cinematic moments into comic set-pieces.
With horror continuing to dominate global box office trends, the franchise’s revival appears timed to tap into the genre’s renewed popularity. Indian audiences will be able to catch the film in theatres when it releases nationwide on June 12, 2026.
