The excitement around Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu continues to build as key members of the cast and crew recently arrived in Berlin for a special fan event. Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and filmmaker Jon Favreau interacted with fans at a packed screening, where exclusive footage from the upcoming film was showcased to an audience of over a thousand attendees.
The event, held at a cinema in Berlin, was followed by a fan interaction along the Spree River, where the team engaged with audiences and posed for photographs. Earlier in the day, during a press interaction, the trio reflected on their personal journeys with the Star Wars franchise, sharing memories of how the iconic universe first impacted them.
Jon Favreau revisited his childhood experience of watching the original film in theatres. “I went with my dad in New York," he recalled. "I still remember when that giant spaceship appeared, the blockade runner goes by, then the (Star) Destroyer kept going and going. The theatre went from a gasp to laughter to cheering, and it didn't stop. George Lucas, being the cinephile he is, layered in so many references that I didn't even understand at the time. The film opened me up to not just Star Wars but to cinema in general. At first, I love it as a spectacle, and as I grew older, I love the storytelling and the humanity.”
Sigourney Weaver, who joins the Star Wars universe with this project, spoke about her first viewing of the original film. "I saw it at the Ziegfeld in New York City in 1977, along with thousands of other people. We hadn't seen anything like it, it really took you to another galaxy, another universe. It had heart, it had humour. But what I loved most was that there were so many different species, and for the most part, they were all getting along. There was the evil empire, but otherwise, no matter what you looked like, you had a home in Star Wars. I loved that about it."
For Pedro Pascal, the franchise has been a constant since childhood. “I was born in '75, so my entire childhood is shaped by those first movies," he said. “I saw the first Star Wars before Empire Strikes Back and then Return of the Jedi, my personal favourite. I cannot help the memory of finally getting tickets to Return of the Jedi. We had tried like three or four times for the tickets and it was sold out every time. My sister had already seen it and I hadn't, and it was absolute hell. When I finally got in, it was one of the greatest moviegoing experiences of my life."
Set after the fall of the Empire, Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu follows the journey of Din Djarin and his young companion Grogu as they navigate a galaxy still dealing with the remnants of Imperial forces. The story unfolds as the New Republic attempts to restore order, enlisting the help of the Mandalorian bounty hunter.
Directed by Jon Favreau and co-written with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor, the film is produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce. The music for the film is composed by Ludwig Göransson.
Backed by Lucasfilm, the film is set for an IMAX release in theatres on May 22, 2026, in multiple languages including English and Hindi.
