Netflix had to remove a joke on Smith after Rock flubbed it at his live comedy special Selective Outrage.

Netflix edited out a joke on Will Smith after comedian Chris Rock flubbed it at his live comedy special Selective Outrage. As shared by Entertainment Weekly, the comedian told a series of jokes about Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, during his live stand-up set on March 4. However, one of jokes — which centered around an alleged conversation that he had with Smith about hosting the 2016 Oscars — did not make the final cut because he confused two of the actor's films.

"Years ago, his wife said I should quit the Oscars — I shouldn't host 'cause her man didn't get nominated for Emancipation, the biggest piece of s--- ever!" Rock said in the special. Realizing his mistake, he corrected himself: "No, not Emancipation. I f---ed up the joke."

Rock was attempting poke fun about his 2016 Oscars hosting gig and Smith's 2015 film Concussion during the special. Instead, he confused it with Smith's historical drama Emancipation, which was released this past December. The joke has been now removed from the special currently streaming on Netflix.

A source told The Hollywood Reporter that Rock is aware of the edit and worked with Netflix on the final cut that is now available to people streaming. Following the confusion, Rock continued and delivered the joke accurately. “She started this shit. She said that me, a fucking grown-ass man, should quit his job because, ‘My husband didn’t get nominated for Concussion,'” he said.

Rock also made a separate joke at the 2016 ceremony about Pinkett Smith and Concussion. “[You] said, ‘It’s not fair that Will was this good [in Concussion] and didn’t get nominated!’” he said. “You’re right! It’s also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West! OK?”

The hour-long comedy special also features the comedian’s response to Smith slapping him at 2022 Oscars.
