Berlin has been announced as the host city for the international premiere of Michael, the upcoming biographical film based on the life and legacy of pop icon Michael Jackson. The announcement was made by Academy Award-winning producer Graham King during Munich Film Week. The premiere is scheduled to take place on April 10 and will be followed by a multi-day, world-exclusive global fan celebration.
According to the makers, the international premiere in Berlin will be attended by key cast members and filmmakers and it will mark the launch of a dedicated fan event celebrating Michael Jackson’s music, influence, and cultural impact. Further details regarding the premiere and fan celebration are expected to be revealed closer to the date.
Produced by Graham King under his banner GK Films, Michael is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by three-time Academy Award nominee John Logan. The film is described as a cinematic portrayal of Michael Jackson’s life, tracing his journey from his early years as a child prodigy and lead singer of the Jackson Five to his evolution into one of the most influential entertainers in global music history.
The film explores both Jackson’s life off-stage and his rise as a solo artist, while also recreating some of his most iconic performances. The narrative focuses on the ambition, discipline, and creative drive that shaped his career, offering audiences an in-depth look at the man behind the music.
Michael marks the feature film debut of Jaafar Jackson, who steps into the role of his uncle, Michael Jackson. The cast also includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, and Juliano Krue Valdi, with Miles Teller and two-time Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo playing key roles.
Antoine Fuqua, known for films such as Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen, and The Equalizer franchise, directs the project. Alongside Graham King, the film is produced by John Branca and John McClain, both closely associated with Michael Jackson’s estate and previous projects such as This Is It and Thriller 40.
The film will be distributed by Lionsgate in North America and Japan, in partnership with Kino Films, while Universal Pictures will handle international distribution. With the Berlin premiere and global fan celebration, Michael is being positioned as a major international cinematic event ahead of its worldwide release.
