M. Night Shyamalan and daughter Saleka Night Shyamalan unveils ‘Trap’, a thrilling Music movie focuses on father-daughter duo at concert

Warner Bros. Pictures is set to release a new thriller film, "Trap", directed by M. Night Shyamalan, in August. The movie follows a father and his teenage daughter.

This August, Warner Bros. Pictures presents a new experience in the world of M. Night Shyamalan Trap featuring performances by rising music star Saleka.

The story centres around a father and his teenage daughter attending a pop concert, only to realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.

Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, Trap stars Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Night Shyamalan, Hayley Mills and Allison Pill. The film is produced by Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock and M. Night Shyamalan.

Talking about the genesis of the film, M. Night Shyamalan said, “Trap was created by me and my daughter Saleka from our conversations together about music and movies. It basically started us thinking about doing a music movie together that would also function as a thriller. I started to wonder, ‘Could we do a thriller about music?’ I thought that Saleka could write an album and we could experience that music the way you would if you were at a concert, and then intertwine that with a thriller. Could those two things coexist? I started noodling on it, and I pitched Saleka—she was really into it. We started building on that… so we follow a father and daughter to the concert, and we keep mixing together the concert and the dark things happening there. And that’s how Trap was developed.”

Adding further is debutant actor and musician Salekha Night Shyamalan. She said, “This is a very personal project, because it was an idea that my dad and I had a long time ago—to bring music and film together, which are things that go together very much in our culture from Bollywood films. It’s something that feels very natural. But we wanted to do it in our way. Something that felt more Shyamalan. That was the seed. Then, he came up with the idea of a serial killer at a concert, where the concert is a trap. That really began this project. He wrote the script with spots for songs, and I ended up writing an album for it.”

The director of photography is Sayombhu Mukdeeprom (“Call Me by Your Name”). The production designer is Debbie DeVilla (“The Hating Game”). It is edited by Noëmi Preiswerk (“Knock at the Cabin”). The original songs are written, produced and performed by Saleka Night Shyamalan. The music is by Herdĭs Stefănsdŏttir (“Knock at the Cabin”) and the music supervisor is Susan Jacobs (“Old”). The costume designer is Caroline Duncan (“Old”). The VFX supervisor is Javier Marcheselli (“Dune”). The casting is by Douglas Aibel (“Asteroid City”).

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a blinding edge pictures production, an M. Night Shyamalan film Trap. The film is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and was released in cinemas in India on August 2, 2024.
