The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama says, “I hope the audience enjoy what Japanese anime – animation brings to the table”Talking about expanding on Tolkien’s world with The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, director Kenji Kamiyama said, "Of course I love the books, but really it was the Peter Jackson movies, the Trilogy, that had a huge impact on me. I went to the opening day of every single movie. So, to take on this project, what was necessary was really to try to find myself back at the first time I fell in love with this world, to try to regain that perspective of fans who have basically been staying with this franchise for a long, long time. That was very important to me. The story of the War of the Rohirrim, there is such power to it, that really attracted me. It’s a very short story, just a page in the appendices, but it’s very powerful and it has the makings of a great story."
Ask him what is in store for the audiences when they see The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, he promptly added, "It started out with a journey to the unknown, with so much uncertainty, but now that we’re looking at the release it’s incredible. I hope the audience enjoy what Japanese anime/animation brings to the table that is a little different from other forms of animation, a dramatized picture, for a general audience, everybody, adults, not just a younger audience."
Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg—a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.
The film is distributed theatrically worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and will be released in India on December 13, 2024 in English.
