Lee Jong Suk is a South Korean actor. September 14 marks the actor’s birthday.

A male lead in any K-drama automatically becomes a fan favourite because of his suave style, likeable characteristics and a charisma strong enough to melt the coldest of hearts. Over the years, we have seen quite a few male leads who became not only domestic but global favorites. We began to see a variety of stories with a variety of characters catering to everyone’s liking. K-DRAMAS:

 1. W – TWO WORLDS

Haven’t we all at least wondered what it would be like to live in a world of comics or meet our favourite comic characters? Well, what would happen if one such character does come to life and the events that follow are akin to the story in the comic? The answer to this question lies in the fantasy romance K-drama W-Two Worlds. Starring Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo in the lead, this K-drama is one of the most popular titles from 2016. If you love a good thriller, mind boggling plot twists and a cute romance then this one is a must watch!

2. BIG MOUTH

Undoubtedly one of the most popular dramas of 2022, Big Mouth propelled its leads - Lee Jong Suk and Im Yoona - to a newfound success and fame. An incompetent lawyer is sent to prison after he is assumed to a criminal. His wife steps in to proof her husband’s innocence but in doing so end up discovering a whole lot of dangerous secrets.

3. WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING

The drama that became known for its second lead as much as its lead pair back in 2016 is While You Were Sleeping. Lee Jong Suk and Bae Suzy displayed a good chemistry on screen and their romance was lauded as well, but the one guy who stole hearts was Jung Hae In in the second lead. That photo of shadows on a pavement at a bus stop became symbolic to hidden feelings of love and longing. While You Were Sleeping is a K-drama involving fantasy and thriller elements enough to keep you glued to your screens. A prosecutor, a reporter and a detective get involved in a matter as they realise their fates might be intertwined beyond just romance or companionship.

4. THE HYMN OF DEATH

I cannot recommend this mini-series enough! If you are looking to peek into South Korea’s history, especially the personal life of a well-known poet and also go through a catharsis, then The Hymn of Death is the drama for you. The drama tells the story of author Kim Woo Jin (played by Lee Jong Suk) and his heartbreaking romance with Shim Seon Deok (played by Shin Hye Sun). The sepia toned frames of the drama transport you to the yesteryears and make you feel as if you are living the story.

5. ROMANCE IS A BONUS BOOK

“You’re not my type”, says Kang Dan I. “That’s nonsense, I am every woman’s type”, replies Cha Eun Ho. These lines are from the underrated K-drama Romance is a Bonus Book starring Lee Jong Suk and Lee Na Young. To those who have already seen the drama, how are you doing? To those who have not yet begun, what are you doing? It is a story about a gifted writer who's the youngest editor-in-chief ever at his publishing company gets enmeshed in the life of a former copywriter desperate for a job.

KOREAN MOVIES:

1. DECIBEL

What will you do when there is a bomb in the vicinity and it is highly volatile to sound? If you’re wondering about the ins and outs then you must watch the movie Decibel. This movie is a gripping tale in the epicenter of a national emergency. The terrorist attack was not just done on a whim, but it also unraveled the past deeds of the officials involved in defusing the bomb.

2. V.I.P.

If you had thought that a cute-looking person like Lee Jong Suk could not do an antagonist role well, then you are mistaken. To prove the point, you need to watch the movie V.I.P. In this movie, he plays the role of a North Korean defector who is out on a killing spree. Forces from the North and South join hands to catch him and that is what forms the interesting part of the story. Please be warned of trigger warnings for blood, gore, abuse.

3. NO BREATHING

Adolescence is an age where everything seems to either immediately not go your way or things just fall into your lap. It can be in any case, love, life or school. No Breathing tells the story of two friends who are star swimming champions and happen to fall in love with the same girl. The three then go through the ups and downs together as the figure out their life and also themselves.
