Kylie Jenner, the 26-year-old beauty mogul and mother of two, recently shared her deeply personal battle with postpartum depression in an interview with British Vogue. Jenner, who shares her children Stormi and Aire with ex-partner Travis Scott, spoke candidly about the mental and emotional challenges she faced after giving birth. Reflecting on her journey, Kylie revealed, “I’m going to be 27, and I’m finally feeling like myself again.” She admitted that it took nearly a year after the births of both her children to start feeling like herself again.
The mental and hormonal challenges
Kylie described her postpartum experience as “mentally and hormonally challenging,” particularly after the birth of her second child. She shared that during her pregnancies, she often wore sweatpants daily and struggled to manage even the small aspects of her life. “Being pregnant, I wore sweatpants every day, I didn’t have time to figure out even some of the little things in my life, and then postpartum lasted a year,” she revealed. The emotional weight of postpartum depression was overwhelming, lasting for a full year and affecting various aspects of her life, including her ability to name her son.
The emotional turmoil of naming her son
One of the most significant emotional struggles Kylie faced was naming her second child. She recounted spending entire days on the phone with her mother, crying hysterically because she couldn’t decide on a name for her son. “On the phone with my mom all day hysterically crying, saying, ‘I can’t figure out his name,’” she shared. This experience led her to advise pregnant friends to choose their baby names in advance, as the hormonal changes during and after pregnancy can make decision-making nearly impossible.
Overcoming feelings of failure
Kylie admitted that she felt like a failure for not being able to name her son immediately, expressing deep regret and sorrow over the situation. “I felt like such a failure that I couldn’t name him,” she confessed. “He deserved so much more than that. It just really triggered me.” Initially, she named her son Knight, and then briefly Wolf Jacques, but later felt uncertain about the choice. In January 2023, after much reflection and feedback, she finally announced his name as Aire in a heartfelt Instagram post. This decision brought her a sense of relief and joy, as she felt she had finally given her son a name that truly suited him.
