Park Chan Wook’s work has been noted and loved by fans of cinema all these years. His work is something that makes you think, shakes you to the core and leaves you feeling heavy. His 2016 movie The Handmaiden is no different. Kim Tae Ri chanced upon this role amongst hundreds of others. It is also the movie that brought her the fame she deserved. While the movie is not everyone’s cup of tea, it has been spoken of highly in the cinema circles for its nerve-wracking scenes. The Handmaiden is an adaptation of Fingersmith by Sarah Walters, a Welsh writer.

If you have dreamed of living a life in a quaint hamlet, growing your vegetables and living the slow life, then Little Forest is the movie you have to watch. This movie is based on a manga of the same name. The manga was also adapted into Japanese live-action movies. Kim Tae Ri stars as Song Hye Won, a woman who moves to her hometown after growing weary of her fast-paced city life. Ryu Jun Yeol and Jin Ki Joo star as Hye Won’s friends who helped her heal herself emotionally.

3. SUNSHINE (2018)
Korean drama Mr. Sunshine is one of those period dramas that will leave a lasting impression on the audience. It stars Lee Byung Hun in the lead alongside Kim Tae Ri. The drama follows Choi Yoo Jin, who travels to the United States during the great immigration period from South Korea. He comes back home as a US soldier, only to fall in love with the daughter of an aristocrat. Kim Tae Ri as Go Ae Sin is a delight to see on screen. She exudes unmatched grace and elegance in her role. Her demure but strong presence on screen is bound to leave a mark on the viewers.

Twenty-Five Twenty-One follows two individuals and by extension, an entire young generation which was hit by the economic crisis. Kim Tae Ri stars as Na Hee Do, an aspiring fencer and Nam Joo Hyuk stars as Baek Yi Jin, a person who loses riches and begins attempts to rebuild his life. The two cross paths and have a romance of a lifetime. Kim Tae Ri won the Best Actress award and Most Popular Actress award at the 58th BaekSang Arts Awards for her role in Twenty Five Twenty One.

Space Sweepers is Song Joong Ki’s comeback to the movies after a while. But even so, Kim Tae Ri made her presence felt every time she was on screen. Space Sweepers tells the story of a crew aboard a junk collector ship, Victory. The crew gets into trouble after finding Dorothy, a humanoid said to be capable of mass destruction. This science fiction movie is a fresh change and a great addition to the landscape of genres in Korean entertainment.

6. ALIENOID (2022)
Alienoid is a fantasy fictional time travel movie. It runs between the Goryeo dynasty and the present-day South Korea. Ryu Jun Yeol and Kim Woo Bin star alongside Kim Tae Ri in this movie. The sequel to Alienoid was released in January 2024. Kim Tae Ri wielded guns in Space Sweepers, and here we see her wielding swords. She is lithe and graceful in her performance, making the movie an indulgent watch.

7. REVENANT (2023)
If you are looking to sink your teeth into something that will take your sleep away for a few days, then Kim Tae Ri-starrer K-drama Revenant would make a good choice. Oh Jung Se as Yeom Hae Sang and Kim Tae Ri as Ku San Young join hands in finding and getting rid of evil in this drama. Hong Kyung joins them as Lee Hong Sae, a detective who gets entangled in the cases involving Hae Sang and San Young. Revenant is scarier than other dramas in its genre for it sheds light on the evil that lurks within human minds.

After starting 2024 with Alienoid 2, Kim Tae Ri is slated to star in Jeong Nyeon. This drama is an adaptation of a webtoon by the same name by author Seo Irae and illustrations by Namon. She stars in the lead role as Jeong Nyeon who aims to make it big as a professional singer and actor. Challenges come her way and how she achieves her goals forms the rest of the story. The drama is tentatively scheduled to release in October this year.
