K-pop star Kai, a member of the popular South Korean boy band EXO, announced his enlistment date for mandatory military service a week ago. The 28-year-old singer will be enlisting in the army on May 11 to receive basic military training and serve as a public service worker due to a recent change in regulations. As Kai departed for military service today, EXO members warmly accompanied posing together with their iconic greeting and also displaying Kai's new military buzz cut.
Before leaving, he can be seen making a victory sign while the others strike a pose together and give him a thumbs up in a photo, shared by the official social media handle of the group. Meanwhile, his fellow Chanyeol also dropped a multiple-picture post to give a peek into their meeting with Kai before his departure.
He wrote a brief caption for his post in Korean, which loosely translates to, “Don’t get hurt and come back safely.” Reacting to the post in the comments section, fans expressed their sadness but also shared their love and support for the singer.

Having said that, it is worth mentioning here that Kai is the fourth member of EXO to enlist in the military, following Xiumin, D.O., and Suho. Military service is mandatory for all able-bodied men in South Korea, with few exceptions.
Speaking of the professional front, prior to his military enlistment, Kai released his solo album, Rover, in March. It was previously reported that the group has plans for a full comeback this year. This year marks the 11th anniversary of EXO since its debut in 2012.
