Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera and Courteney Cox return for Scream VI with a scarier Ghostface; watch new trailer

The trailer for Scream VI has officially been released with Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera returning as sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter.

The film picks up where the 2022 reboot left off. "These kids are running away, and Ghostface is still finding them in the most beautiful city but also the most terrifying because it's so crowded and it can be aggressive," said Barrera.

The film brings back four survivors Ortega, Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding from last year's Scream. Courteney Cox is also set to reprise the role of crime reporter Gale Weathers. It also stars Tony Revolori, Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, and Hayden Panettiere, who is reprising her Scream 4 role of Kirby Reed.

"Bringing Ghostface to New York adds an entirely new element to the story," she told Entertainment Weekly. "Taking the character out of a small town and putting them in the heart of the city that never sleeps is more terrifying than ever." Meanwhile, Panettiere also spoke about her role saying, "She's come a long way. What happened to her has obviously impacted her life, and it sends her in a certain direction, but she's still the same old Kirby at the heart of it.

She added, “She's just a little older, a little wiser, but just as spitfire-y, and snarky, and all that good stuff." A synopsis for Scream VI reads, “Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.” Scream VI is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who helmed the reboot film. The script comes from James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.
