James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy has officially entered pre-production for his new DCU film. The new entry, which Gunn wrote and will direct, is slated for release on July 11, 2025. “I’m honored to be a part of the legacy. And what better day than Superman Anniversary Day to dive fully into early pre-production on Superman: Legacy? Costumes, production design, and more now up and running,” Gunn tweeted along with a picture of the script.

In the tweet thread, he also confirmed Jimmy Olsen will be in the film. As per an official synopsis, “Superman: Legacy tells the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
