James Cameron recalls watching SS Rajamouli’s RRR: “Great to see Indian cinema bursting out to the world stage with acceptance”

Back in January 2023, filmmaker SS Rajamouli's RRR bagged the Best Film in Foreign Language Award at the Critics Choice Awards 2023. The same night, he met Avatar: The Way Of Water filmmaker James Cameron who recommended RRR to his wife too. Now, at the recent 51st Saturn Awards, the Hollywood director talked about meeting Rajamouli.

Speaking at the Saturn Awards 2024, he said, "I was being honest with him at that time. It's spectacular work. It was great to see Indian cinema bursting out to the world stage with acceptance."

The official handle of RRR on X, formerly Twitter, shared the video and wrote back, "James Cameron.. Your precious words always inspire us to strive better and be the best. We strongly believe Indian cinema is going to break all boundaries and grow to its fullest. #RRRMovie."

Back in 2023, Rajamouli shared photos from their conversation and captioned it, “The great James Cameron watched RRR. He liked it so much that he recommended to his wife Suzy and watched it again with her. Sir I still cannot believe you spent a whole 10 minutes with us analyzing our movie. As you said I AM ON TOP OF THE WORLD... Thank you both.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, SS Rajamouli will next work with Mahesh Babu. Following the success of Avatar: The Way Of Water, James Cameron has multiple sequels planned with Avatar 3 opening on December 19, 2025; Avatar 4 on December 21, 2029; and Avatar 5 on Dec. 19, 2031.
