Italian actor Giancarlo Giannini honored with Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The Oscar nominated actor is known for his collaboration with Lina Wertmuller and his roles in two James Bond films.

Giancarlo Giannini was recently honored with A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame on March 06, 2023 in Hollywood, California. Giannini famously portrayed French agent René Mathis in the James Bond films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

Italian actor Giancarlo Giannini honored with Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The Italian film actor is known for a long collaboration with director Lina Wertmuller and his James Bond role. “This is a wonderful moment, and I’m very happy to be here,” Giannini told the crowd during the unveiling ceremony, as reported Fox LA news outlet. “I want to thank all who thought of giving it to me, this star.”

Giannini dedicated the star “to a wonderful director, her name is Lina Wertmuller, who created me and I’m sure is up there waiting for me, maybe to do other movies.” The actor was honored for a career which included a best actor Oscar nomination and his longtime collaboration with legendary Italian director Lina Wertmuller who died in 2021.

Giannini first collaborated with Wertmuller in the musical Rita the Mosquito, which released in 1966. He went on to star in its 1967 sequel, Don’t Sting the Mosquito, which Wertmuller also directed. Giannini made his film and television debuts in 1965 Freudian psychological thriller Libido.

Italian Sen. Lucia Borgonzoni, a former undersecretary for cultural heritage and activities, film producers Michael Gregg Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and Tiziana Rocca, the artistic director of the Filming Italy Los Angeles Festival, were among the attendees at the 11:30 a.m. ceremony, the report shares.

Three days prior to this event, Giannini joyously received the Filming Italy Lifetime Achievement Award and had a day celebrating his cinematic career. The star is the 2,752nd since the completion of the Walk of Fame in 1961 with the initial 1,558 stars.
