In a major reveal that has set the internet abuzz, HBO has unveiled the first teaser for its highly anticipated Harry Potter television reboot. Titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for its debut season, the series promises a detailed, long-form retelling of J. K. Rowling’s beloved novels.
The two-minute teaser offers a glimpse into a reimagined version of the wizarding world, confirming that the show will adopt a more faithful, book-driven approach. The first season is set to span eight episodes, with the makers also announcing that the series will premiere during Christmas 2026 on HBO and its streaming platform, Max.
A major highlight of the teaser is how it introduces the already-announced cast in character, offering audiences their first glimpse of this new iteration. Newcomer Dominic McLaughlin appears as Harry Potter, with early scenes capturing his life with the Dursleys before receiving his Hogwarts acceptance letter. He is joined by Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
The teaser also provides the first on-screen look at the Hogwarts faculty and supporting characters, featuring Nick Frost appears as Rubeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall. The short clip also gives brief glimpses of John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby as Petunia and Vernon Dursley, respectively. Rounding out the ensemble are Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell, and Warwick Davis, who returns to the franchise as Filius Flitwick.
Directed by Mark Mylod and helmed by showrunner Francesca Gardiner, the series leans heavily into its promise of being ‘book-accurate’. The teaser revisits several iconic moments, including Harry’s first meeting with Hagrid, the journey through Platform 9¾, and the trio’s first ride on the Hogwarts Express.
Visually, the show retains a cinematic scale, with production designer Mara LePere-Schloop reimagining key locations such as the Great Hall and the Quidditch pitch. The extended series format is also expected to explore storylines and characters that were left out of the original films, offering a more expansive look at the wizarding world.
The teaser has generated significant interest among fans, while also prompting discussions around the new casting choices. Despite varied reactions online, the reboot has emerged as one of the most anticipated streaming releases in recent times.
