GOT7’s BamBam reinvents himself in sonically confident and exploratory ‘Bamesis’ – Album Review

en Bollywood News GOT7’s BamBam reinvents himself in sonically confident and exploratory ‘Bamesis’ – Album Review

This new music marks his third mini-album after RiBBon and B. It was released on August 8, 2024.

BamBam, the Thai-born K-pop star who rose to prominence as a member of GOT7, embarked on a solo journey that is as captivating as it is diverse. With each release, he has peeled back layers of his artistry, revealing a musician who is continually evolving and expanding his sonic horizons. His latest EP, Bamesis, is a bold statement of intent. The title itself is a clever play on the word "genesis," suggesting a new beginning, a rebirth. And that's precisely what the album feels like. It's a sonic universe where BamBam has complete creative control, experimenting with different genres and styles without losing his signature flair. BamBam has been on a quest for self-discovery as a solo artist. His previous releases, RiBBon and B, were important steps in this journey, laying the groundwork for the musical identity he is now fully embracing. With Bamesis, he seems to have reached a creative peak, delivering a project that is both confident and exploratory.

GOT7’s BamBam reinvents himself in sonically confident and exploratory ‘Bamesis’ – Album Review

BamBam released his third mini-album Bamesis on August 8, 2024. It contains five tracks, each showcasing a new genre and style that is truly BamBam-coded. He smartly played on the word ‘Genesis’ and gave it a whole new meaning with Bamesis. It is as if BamBam is seeking to reincarnate his musical self. Let’s take a closer look at BamBam’s Bamesis.

1. LAST PARADE
‘Last Parade’ is a stunning track from start to finish. The music, the visuals, the imagery - all of it presents a refreshing view of BamBam’s idea for this musical journey. He resorts to trap and hip hop, punctuated with a war-action-themed ideology of fighting his nemesis - himself. BamBam borrows from mythology and Renaissance imageries to showcase a musical renaissance of his own. The lyrics hit hard when one is familiar with his journey in this industry – “Make it feel like the last parade / Every scene, every scene that we make / Feeling the sound of black and red.

2. MI ULTIMO DESEO
‘Mi Ultimo Deseo’ is a Latin pop track that speaks about one last shot at redemption. It also fits into the story that started with the Last Parade. BamBam singing in Spanish and English is quite the treat to one’s ears. The singer focuses on staying within his vocal range and delivers a sonically enchanting track.

3. BALL LIKE THAT
‘Ball Like That’ is a song that will resonate with most of us, regardless of the profession we are in. In this track, BamBam presents an honest and raw confession of being in the spotlight – “Every time I play a show, they be showing up / And I know, you know, they know they'll never get enough / That's why I keep on coming right back.” The song features mystical echo-like background music paired with classic hip-hop beats.

4. MUST BE NICE
As a fan of entrancing R&B tracks about heartbreak, ‘Must Be Nice’ certainly takes a sweet spot for me. BamBam pours his heart out when he croons, “Yeah, we traded all our secrets / I told you what was mine was yours, I tried / I had given you, all of me then / You'll always have a place right by my side.” In the entire track, there is just one line in Korean that roughly translates to “It’s okay if it is that way”. Those familiar with the language would understand the bittersweet softness that phrase carries.

5. THANK YOU COME AGAIN
BamBam had teased ‘Thank You Come Again’ before the album release and it had sent the fans into a frenzy. This song crowns BamBam in his musical glory as he unabashedly sings, “All you see is nine’s and tens’s / I just jumped inside the Rolls, I got tired of the Benz / Love the sound of money counters, I can't hear you/Come again.Thank You Come Again is a fitting conclusion track to an EP that is all about reinvention, rejecting negativity, and owning up to one’s success without a shred of guilt attached to it.

With Bamesis, one can correctly say that BamBam has truly uncovered his identity as a soloist. His debut EP RiBBon was him playing it safe and being a little uncertain as to how he wanted to shape his identity as a soloist. The influence of GOT7’s musical style was evident in that EP. It took BamBam some time but he has found his voice with Bamesis. This 5-track EP presents a diverse portfolio of BamBam’s artistic capabilities. Each song feels meticulously crafted with BamBam at its core, a stark contrast to the earlier project where the artist seemed to be searching for his place. The Thai singer had previously played in softer genres but left the listeners wanting more.

In this EP, BamBam majorly sings in the English language, thus, appealing to an audience on a global scale. It could also be said that coming from a multilingual background, perhaps BamBam finally found his voice in a language that is foreign to him but also feels familiar to express. The guest's appearance of Korean language verses signal that he has not forgotten where he started from but he has also realized that he has a new journey to forge.

Bamesis is an EP that can be served as an introduction to BamBam. His involvement in the writing and composing process highlights his multifaceted talent. The EP is a showcase of his musicality, where he confidently explores his vocal range without resorting to vocal acrobatics. BamBam's voice, soft and soothing, remains consistent throughout the EP, even when he ventures into hip-hop and rap.

In essence, Bamesis feels like a culmination of BamBam's solo journey thus far, while simultaneously marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. It is a project that solidifies his position as a solo artist and leaves listeners eagerly anticipating his future endeavours.
