In an exclusive quote with Bollywood Hungama, acclaimed director Craig Brewer opened up about the creative fire behind his latest cinematic venture, Song Sung Blue. The film, which stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, is already generating significant buzz for its heartfelt portrayal of Mike and Claire Sardina—the real-life couple behind the iconic Neil Diamond tribute band, Lightning & Thunder.
Reflecting on what drew him to this specific story, Brewer shared a profound insight into his fascination with the "madness" of dreamers.
“I’m always fascinated with mad men, especially mad men in music,” Brewer told Bollywood Hungama. “And I saw that in Mike: a little bit of madness in his eyes, thinking, ‘I’m going to be the biggest Neil Diamond impersonator, I'm going to be a star with this.’ I was envious of it. I've always admired people who can really silence not only the doubters in their life, but the biggest of all doubters — ourselves — and just blindly go after something with everything that they've got.”
Song Sung Blue, which was released in theatres globally on December 25, 2025 in the west and will release in India on January 9, 2026, is a fictionalised adaptation of Greg Kohs’ 2008 documentary. Set in Milwaukee, the film follows two down-on-their-luck performers who find love and a second lease on life by paying tribute to the legendary Neil Diamond.
Hugh Jackman takes on the role of Mike Lightning Sardina, a performance that critics are calling “electrifying and heartrending.” Kate Hudson, who plays Claire "Thunder" Sardina, has already secured a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her soulful portrayal.
