Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ryan Coogler, known for helming Black Panther and Creed, reunites with longtime collaborator and two-time Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson for their latest cinematic endeavour: Sinners. The film stars Michael B. Jordan in a powerful dual role, alongside a stellar ensemble that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo.

Set against the backdrop of a haunting return to a troubled hometown, Sinners follows twin brothers—both played by Jordan—who are seeking a new beginning, only to find themselves confronted by a dark, lurking evil. The psychological and supernatural thriller is poised to offer a new vision of fear through Coogler's deeply human storytelling and Göransson's immersive score.

This marks the fifth feature film collaboration between Coogler and Göransson, whose creative synergy dates back to their student days at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. It was there, under the guidance of the late professor and legendary music editor Kenny Hall, that they learned the foundational approach that still defines their work: never use temp music.

“Our teacher taught us never to use temp music. He said, ‘Let the composer put the music down on your film,’” says Coogler. “Ludwig gets a script very early, and I don’t use temp music in the movie, so it puts pressure on him to start making music early, because I’m going to need it. Usually before a picture is rolling, I get some music.”

For Göransson, that level of early collaboration is key. “Ryan’s approach to the supernatural and horror elements in the film is unique in the way you’re so invested in the characters, the story, and the music,” he shares. “The twists of horror play out in a way that you can’t see coming.”

Their creative process remains as organic as ever. “Ryan would send me songs and music while he was still writing and researching,” says Göransson. “It was through the music that I understood what he was doing with this one.”

Beyond their professional rapport, both Coogler and Göransson recognize the universal power of music. “Music is everything. It was my first introduction to art,” Coogler reflects. “Not everybody can go to the Louvre and look at the Mona Lisa. But everyone can listen to music.”

Sinners also reunites Coogler with many of his Black Panther team, including director of photography Autumn Durald Arkapaw, Oscar-winning production designer Hannah Beachler, editor Michael P. Shawver, and Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter—further ensuring that every element of the film will be crafted with a distinct visual and emotional identity.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Proximity Media Production: Sinners. The film will release in cinemas and IMAX in India on April 18, 2025, distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
