Following the shocking news last week that Wonder Woman 3 was scrapped, director Patty Jenkins has now broken her silence on her departure from the film, clarifying that she did not walk away from the project.

Director Patty Jenkins issues a lengthy statement addressing Wonder Woman 3 departure rumors – “I never walked away.”

As Collider reports, the statement comes after The Wrap originally reported that Jenkins had walked off the Wonder Woman 3 project of her own accord because of the fact that the filmmaker’s vision for the third entry in the film series didn’t match those of Warner Bros. “The attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread. This is simply not true. I never walked away," Jenkins wrote in a lengthy and detailed statement shared on Twitter.

“I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.” She then went on to praise the "absolute legend and beacon of goodness" Lynda Carter, the original Wonder Woman who also briefly appeared in Wonder Woman 1984, as well as her "cherished friend, inspiration, and sister," Gal Gadot. "There are no words I can use to convey how magical she is."

"She is the walking embodiment of Wonder Woman in real life and a better person than the world can imagine. Never once in the millions of moments I have spent with her did I see anything less. She is a gift to this world, and even more so, to me." Following Jenkin’s statement, new DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn responded to her statement writing, “I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.”

The director's statement comes a week after news first broke that the filmmaker is no longer expected to make a third installment of the DC franchise, following the appointment of new DC Studios heads Gunn and Peter Safran. The two are soon expected to present a DC plan to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
