Chicken Nugget Ending Explained: Ryu Seung Ryong – Ahn Jae Hong shine in delightful, absurd and adventurous absurd comedy K-drama

en Bollywood News Chicken Nugget Ending Explained: Ryu Seung Ryong – Ahn Jae Hong shine in delightful, absurd and adventurous absurd comedy K-drama

Released on March 15 on Netflix, the series has 10 episodes with cameos from Park Jinyoung, Jung Ho Yeon, Son Suk Ku among others.

Chicken Nugget, a Netflix Korean drama adapted from the webtoon “Fried Chicken” by Park Ji Dok, reimagines the classic trope of people transforming into objects with a fresh perspective. Through its ten episodes, each spanning 30-35 minutes, the series delicately balances humour and emotion as characters grapple with their newfound identities. With nuanced storytelling, it explores themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and the bonds of friendship.

Chicken Nugget chronicles the attempts of Choi Seon Man (played by Ryu Seung Ryeong) and Ko Baek Joong (played by Ahn Jae Hong) to turn Seon Man’s daughter Min Ah (played by Kim Yoo Jong) back to human after she was accidentally turned into a chicken nugget. Along the way, they uncover a connection going back 200 years. 200 years ago is when the story actually begins, and Min Ah turning into a chicken nugget is just another event in the series.

Chicken Nugget Ending Explained: Does Min Ah turn back into human?

Chicken Nugget is a whacky tale of attempts by a father and a one-sided lover to get a girl back to her human form. As the story first begins, we are met with a series of funky characters and crude humor scenes. But the show grows on you as each episode rolls into credits. There is exaggerated humor, bodily humor and sometimes a pathetic underscore to the characters’ stories, but all these come together in a digestible story for the audience.

Actors Park Jin Young and Jung Ho Yeon’s cameo in the show was quite the surprise. Park Jin Young barely spoke but made his presence felt as Tae Young. Jung Ho Yeon’s character as Hong Cha, a food critic was quite the delight to see on screen. Hong Cha is the opposite of girlfriend characters usually shown in dramas. In a way, she was also a foil to Min Ah’s character for she liked Baek Joong to have the paunch and food loving diet whereas Min Ah liked ripped and toned men. The tiff between Hong Cha and Baek Joong over food choices more than anything else, and that being the tipping point for their breakup carries a comic underscore.

By episodes 9 and 10, the story becomes crystal clear for everyone. We know that the aliens came to Earth 200 years ago, and a greedy human’s wrong doings led them to extend their stay on the Earth. As time passed by, the aliens’ machine changed hands and found itself surrounded by curious and selfish minds.

After 200 years finally, the aliens found their machine back, but it wasn’t without an obstacle. The machine has lost its power and they won’t be able to go back home if they change Min Ah back to human. They offer a solution that Min Ah can go to their home planet and come back. But it would take 50 human years for her to come back. Reluctantly so, Seon Man sends his daughter with the aliens in hopes that she will come back as a human. He retires to the mountains and lives up to 105. Baek Joong becomes a singer and songwriter, a dream he had harbored since long but was crushed by his parents.

The finale episode takes us 50 years into the future. We are not sure if Min Ah truly did come back, but a young woman’s claims about her grandmother’s stories makes one believe that probably Choi Min Ah did eventually come back, earlier than expected. If anything, the young woman’s story gives hope that all endeavors were not a waste.

Chicken Nugget is one of those eccentric bunch of dramas that ensnares the viewers’ attention with it’s out of the box approach to storytelling. We don’t know exactly what Seon Man and his two employees did. It was an electronics enterprise, but never once did they have a busy day at work. Baek Joong’s songs did not make complete sense, but they still caught on (perhaps credit goes to Kim Tae Seong for making such engaging compositions!) In a mainstream drama, most of these elements might not have made sense. But in Chicken Nugget, they sure did.

Ryu Seong Ryeong and Ahn Jae Hong’s acting and comic timing is truly a delight to see. The chemistry between their characters, the hilarious yet emotionally touching attempts to get Min Ah back, the well-timed humor and dialogue delivery - all these sum up to a memorable performance by both actors.

Helmed by director Lee Byung Hun (not to be confused with the Squid Games actor!), Chicken Nugget is an unusual yet fun comic caper to watch. Right from the intro montage, the drama stays true to its promise of providing entertainment for the viewers, even if it borders on the unusual side of things.

In the first half of the show, it certainly feels the story is taking its own time to actually get to the point with the numerous trials and tribulations by Seon Man and Baek Joong to bring back Min Ah. With the scientist Professor Yoo, Tae Man, and the four owners of the Chicken Nugget store aka the aliens being added to the mix, the story latches onto the inherent confusion and chaotic layering of the plot but soon finds its way to a satisfying denouement.
