CBFC passes Will Smith-starrer Bad Boys: Ride Or Die with ‘A’ certificate; makers mute ‘dick’ but retain ‘penis’

The fourth part of the Bad Boys franchise, Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, will be released today, Thursday, June 6, evening onwards in India. It is a part of a popular series and all its films have had mainstream appeal. At the same time, all Bad Boys films have received an ‘A’ certificate in India from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is no exception.

The censor process of Bad Boys: Ride Or Die was completed in advance, on May 31. The CBFC is known for enforcing cuts, even in adult films. But interestingly, the CBFC’s Examining Committee didn’t ask for a single cut for this film, be it audio or visual. However, the makers themselves censored certain terms which they felt might be opposed by the CBFC.

For instance, in a crucial funny dialogue, the word ‘dick’ has been muted. However, a few minutes later, when the word ‘penis’ is uttered, it is allowed and hasn’t been muted or cut. The violent scenes are few but thankfully, have not been touched.

Bad Boys: Ride Or Die’s final duration, as per the certificate, is 117 minutes. In other words, it is 1 hour and 57 minutes long and hence, also the shortest Bad Boys film.

Bad Boys: Ride Or Die stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the lead and is about the much-loved Miami cops who, this time, are on the wrong side of the law. The previous part, Bad Boys For Life (2020), had a lifetime of Rs. 10 crores in India. Hence, the expectations are there from the trade and industry for the fourth instalment. As per Deadline, it is expected to collect $75 million at the global box office over the weekend.

Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is also the first Will Smith film after the infamous Slapgate incident of 2022, wherein the actor assaulted Chris Rock at the Oscars.
