BTS’ SUGA named global ambassador for NBA: ‘Music and basketball have been shared passions of mine since my youth’

SUGA will be engaging with NBA fans around the world for the 2022-23 NBA season and beyond.

BTS’ SUGA is on a roll! As the musician gears up for his solo album D-DAY and documentary releases, the 30-year-old musician has been announced as the global ambassador for NBA. The announcement was made on April 6, 2023.

“Music and basketball have been shared passions of mine since my youth, and it’s a dream to be named an NBA Ambassador,” said SUGA in a statement to NBA. “I’m excited to formalize my relationship with the NBA, and I can’t wait to share some exciting collaborations I have planned with the league over the coming months.”

“We’re thrilled to join forces with SUGA – a superstar musician, fashion icon, and passionate NBA fan,” said NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum. “We look forward to working with SUGA to bring the same excitement he engenders from his global fanbase in support of our continued efforts to grow our brand.”

As per the report, SUGA will be engaging with NBA fans around the world for the 2022-23 NBA season and beyond. He is set to participate “in several league initiatives that will be featured on the NBA’s and his personal social media channels, including attending NBA games and events in the U.S. and Asia, and participating in the league’s promotional activities.” The report also revealed that SUGA, who is gearing up for his first solo tour SUGA/AGUST D D-DAY Tour, will have the presence of the NBA at select concerts.

Back in September 2022, SUGA attended The NBA Japan Games 2022. He was sitting courtside, interacting with many players including Steph Curry. He was also seen at the Dallas Mavericks at Los Angeles Lakers game on January 12, 2023.

SUGA is also gearing up for the release of his first official solo album D-DAY under his another moniker Agust D on April 21. D-DAY marks the finale of Agust D’s trilogy following his two previous mixtapes Agust D (2016) and D-2 (2020). SUGA took part in the overall songwriting and producing of the album. Ahead of the album release, SUGA will first reveal a pre-release track from the album on April 7. The song titled 'People Pt. 2' is a collaboration with singer-actress IU. This marks their second collaboration.
