The Russo Brothers - Anthony and Joe Russo - of The Avengers fame are the executive producers of the upcoming spy series Citadel featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden in the lead. The show will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video. In a recent interview, Anthony Russo of Russo brothers spoke about the characters of the series and lauded the lead cast.

During an interview, talking about the casting of Citadel, Anthony Russo said, “It was a lot of pressure with casting because these are extremely difficult roles. So Joe and I, we love the spy genre and this was our opportunity as producers to help reinvent what that can be, bring a fresh version of it to the audiences and the way we look to do that is through our characters.”

Talking about the characters, he further added, “So, you are used to strong male leads, in this genre, now you are going to get a very strong female lead in Priyanka Chopra. She is a badass spy, best of the best and she does some incredible physical work in this show. I think people are going to be very excited to see. Likewise, Richard Madden feels like a classic leading man spy genre hero but we come up with a very inventive way to twist his character in this show, that I think is the big part of the appeal event.”

Citadel is executive produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO and showrunner David Weil. Alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, the 6-episode series features Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville in pivotal roles. This thrilling spy series, which takes viewers around the world, will premiere exclusively on Prime Video starting April 28 with two episodes and then one episode rolling out weekly through May 26. The global series will stream across 240 countries and territories in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and other international languages.

The makers plan to make it into a global franchise and even have local instalments in several countries. An Indian version of the show is currently in production. It stars Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu and is helmed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, of The Family Man and Farzi fame.
