Bollywood actor Yami Gautam has always wanted to maintain a quiet profile. The actor admitted that she dislikes socialising. It seems unusual to her because she prefers to let her work speak for itself. In a recent interview, Yami discussed the pressure to network at well-known Bollywood parties and how certain celebs insisted on attending them despite continually moaning about it.
In an interview Yami spoke with Ranveer Allahabadia about her experience as a performer in Mumbai. She said, “This city tests you and breaks you. There was this time in my life — I have a piece of land in Himachal Pradesh, and I thought that I would take up farming, if this film does not work.” Yami stated that she was speaking about her career in 2018–2019 because she had experienced numerous low points following Vicky Donor's triumph. She said “I told my mother if this film does not work, I would just come back. I am happy with acting and roles, but the process tests you — the people, the process, and the unspoken culture, notions.”
She further added, “Why do you have to tell people you are a good actor? But for the longest time I was told to network, and socialise. This isn’t bad, but there are people like me who aren’t comfortable. Why should I go to a party to make a conversation just to get work? If you like it, go ahead — I am not judging.”
She also said that when she has spoken to many of her peers, she claimed that they have all lamented the same parties and networking pressure. “They would say, ‘I don’t like this, I don’t like parties and I like get togethers…’ and yet they all turn up at the same place. I am not judging anyone. That was the pressure—not the pressure to work,” the actress said.
Yami made her acting debut in Bollywood with Vicky Donor in 2012, opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. She has starred in several movies such as Kaabil, Sanam Re, Bala, Ginny weds Sunny, A Thursday, Badlapur, Dasvi among others. She was last seen in Lost, which was released on OTT platform ZEE5 on February 16. She has Oh My God 2 and Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga in her pipeline.
