Aamir Khan’s last film Laal Singh Chaddha bombed badly at the box office. However, there’s a tremendous expectation from his upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par. Earlier this year, Aamir confirmed that he and his team are trying their best to release the sports film on Christmas this year. However, co-producer Ravi Bhagchandka, who earlier produced Sachin: A Billion Dreams (2017), has confessed that the team is yet to decide on the release date.
Sitaare Zameen Par is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones (2018). Speaking to Mid-Day, Ravi Bhagchandka revealed that he was impressed with its trailer that he saw at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival, 2018. It motivated him to see the film the next day at the festival. He also realized that there’s a potential for it to be remade in India. He said, “I have an attention problem. So, when I read the script in one go, I knew it was a crackling story. I bought the rights soon after. Eventually, Aamir sir saw it and loved it.”
Ravi Bhagchandka also spoke highly of superstar and fellow producer, Aamir Khan saying, “When Aamir sir is exploring a subject, the experiences, insight and eye for detail he has is fantastic. It’s not just about weaving in the nuances into a story, it’s also about communicating it to the audience. He will make things stand out in the story, which didn’t register with you when you read it before. He can tell the same story but with a fresh takeaway.”
When asked whether Sitaare Zameen Par will make it to cinemas on Christmas 2024, Ravi replied that it was too early to take a call.
If Sitaare Zameen Par does release on Christmas, it’ll clash with the much-awaited comic caper, Welcome To The Jungle. It stars Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Johny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Mika Singh, Rahul Dev, Mukesh Tiwari, Sharib Hashmi, Inaamulhaq, Zakir Hussain, Yashpal Sharma, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez and Disha Patani. Sanjay Dutt, too, was a part of the film originally but has now opted out of the film.
Welcome To The Jungle is the third part of the Welcome franchise. Incidentally, the first part, Welcome (2007) also released on Christmas and clashed with an Aamir Khan-starrer, Taare Zameen Par. That’s not all. Though it’s not a second part of Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par does remind one of the 2007 cult classic due to the similar title.
