The long-awaited trailer of the web series The Family Man 2 was released last week. However soon after the release, there was a section of people demanding a ban on the series. They accused the trailer of showing Tamilians in a bad light by depicting them as terrorists and ISI agents.
Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko also wrote a letter to the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar requesting a ban on the show. Amid this, actor Shreya Dhanwanthary, who plays a prominent role in the series took to her Twitter handle to share her thoughts on bans and getting offended by content. “The following hurts my sentiments:
1) Ppl who listen/watch something w/o headphones.
2) Wilful ignorance.
3) Littering.
4) And since we like to ban things from my field lemme add, misogynistic films like AR also hurt my sentiments,” she tweeted.
“List is long & detailed & my point is this: Just ‘cos I don’t like summin; and these things really hurt my sentiments & every part of my soul: is it right for me to scream for a ban? Or are bans justified ‘cos more people are offended by the same things I am? Is it a number thing?,” she questioned.

“Why are bans so freely demanded and given? We ignore corruption. We are okay with people telling us we don’t need oxygen ‘cos we have lungs. We are okay with lies, floating bodies, massive statues and packed rallies. Yet we call for bans against comedians, shows, films & platforms,” she further wrote.
“Someone will always get offended by something. That’s a given. And banning something doesn’t make you look good. The only thing it says about us is that we are unwilling to accept views, beliefs, or behaviour that differ from our own. I think there is a word for that…,” she concluded.
The Family Man 2 created by Raj and DK stars Manoj Bajpayee, Sharib Hashmi, Priyamani, and Samantha Akkineni among others. The series will stream on Amazon Prime Videos from June 4.
