Actor Vishal Jethwa is overjoyed as Homebound secures a coveted spot among the top 15 films shortlisted for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. The announcement marked a significant milestone for Indian cinema on the global stage, with the film now advancing to the voting phase ahead of the official nominations on January 22.
Sharing his heartfelt reaction, Vishal Jethwa said, “This moment feels surreal and incredibly humbling. To see Homebound being shortlisted and progressing towards the Oscars is something I could have only dreamed of. I am deeply grateful for the love and support the film has received from audiences around the world. I want to sincerely thank Karan Johar sir for believing in this story and in us as artists his vision and backing gave Homebound the wings it needed”.
He went on to add, “Neeraj Ghaywan sir’s sensitivity, honesty, and clarity as a filmmaker pushed me to explore emotional depths I had never touched before. Working under his direction has been nothing short of transformative. I also want to thank Ishaan Khatter, whose passion and commitment elevated every scene, we learned so much from each other on this journey. Produced by Dharma Productions, Homebound is a 2025 Hindi-language drama written and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. Inspired by a 2020 New York Times article by Basharat Peer, the film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. The story revolves around two childhood friends striving to clear the national police exam, weaving a narrative rich in emotional depth and social commentary.
The Oscar shortlist further amplifies Homebound’s growing international acclaim, underscoring the power of authentic storytelling and collaborative filmmaking. If nominated, it would mark a landmark achievement for Indian cinema, reinforcing its presence on the world stage.
