Vijay Varma has offered fans one of the most endearing glimpses yet from the sets of his upcoming film Gustaakh Ishq: Kuch Pehle Jaisa, and it involves none other than acting legend Naseeruddin Shah. The actor, who steps into a full-fledged romantic lead in the film, shared a series of photos on social media — including a sketch he made of Shah between takes — and fans are calling it the “wholesome flex of the year.”
In the images, Shah is seen seated on the set wrapped in an intricately patterned shawl, capturing the old-world charm of the film’s 1990s Purani Delhi setting. Another picture shows a hand-drawn portrait of the veteran actor, which he personally signed in Urdu, making the moment even more meaningful for Varma.
Vijay’s caption added emotional depth to the exchange as he wrote, “When you do the gustaakhi to turn your role-model into your model as well Blessed to be working with the legend @naseeruddin49 Saab and learning from him. My most cherished onscreen relationship yet… I made a sketch of him between takes (slide3) and he signed it in Urdu. Show me a bigger flex… Gustaakh Ishq releases tomo. Dekhiye zarur”.
The actor has long spoken about admiring Shah since his FTII days, even recalling moments when he stood outside the veteran’s lectures hoping to learn from him. Now sharing screen space with the icon, Varma has described the experience as a career milestone.

Gustaakh Ishq, directed by Vibhu Puri and produced by Manish Malhotra in his debut as a film producer along with Stage5 Productions, is a Hindi-language romantic drama set in 1990s Old Delhi. The film follows Nawabuddin Saifuddin Rahman, who struggles to save his father’s printing press and finds himself becoming the disciple of a respected shayar, Aziz/Babba. Complications arise when he falls in love with the poet’s daughter, Minni, forcing him to choose between love and loyalty. Sharib Hashmi also stars as Attachie.
The film premiered in the Gala Premiere section at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 24, ahead of its theatrical release on November 28, 2025. Originally titled Ul Jalool Ishq, the project has been generating buzz for its vintage aesthetic, evocative storyline, and the powerful pairing of Varma and Shah.
With Varma’s heartfelt behind-the-scenes moment now winning the internet, the excitement around Gustaakh Ishq has only grown stronger — and fans are eager to see the nuanced relationship between the two actors come alive on screen.
