For their Mehendi ceremony in Udaipur, actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna embraced a vibrant, maximalist aesthetic that celebrated Indian textile traditions while infusing them with a contemporary fashion sensibility. Rashmika Mandanna: A bride inspired by divine grace

Rashmika Mandanna’s look was a masterclass in textile artistry. She wore a custom multi-tonal lehenga draped in a saree-style silhouette that brought together several traditional Indian design languages. The garment featured heavy patchwork composed of Kalamkari-inspired panels and Bandhani patterns, creating a colourful tapestry of heritage prints.

One of the most striking elements of the ensemble was the dupatta, which showcased a large hand-painted deity motif framed by a scalloped, embellished border. The piece was paired with a structured off-shoulder corset blouse, heavily adorned with gold embroidery and beadwork, blending a modern silhouette with traditional craftsmanship.

Her accessories complemented the vibrancy of the outfit without overwhelming it. Rashmika opted for a multi-layered pink beaded necklace and floral-inspired earrings from Shree Jewellers. Her hair was styled in soft waves, accentuated by a delicate floral trail cascading down the back, adding a romantic finish to the look.

Designer Karan Torani explained the inspiration behind Rashmika’s outfit, revealing how the idea of a bride entering her new life like a divine presence shaped the design. “In Indian imagination, the arrival of a bride is often compared to the arrival of Devi Lakshmi - the goddess of prosperity, grace and new beginnings. Her presence is believed to bring peace, wealth and harmony into a new home. That feeling became the emotional anchor for @rashmika_mandanna’s garment”.

“When I first met Rashmika, what struck me was not her stardom, but her gentleness. A girl from Mysore, rooted in simplicity, carrying the warmth of someone who has never forgotten where she comes from. I wanted the garment to honour that spirit - the quiet grace of a woman whose joy feels effortless and whose presence lights up every room. So we turned to the artistic language of the South - Tanjore painting, with its jewel tones, temple arches and luminous gold. In these paintings, Lakshmi sits within a sacred shrine surrounded by symbols of prosperity. That became our inspiration. A bejewelled corset paired with a draped dhoti skirt and a Lakshmi odhna - a garment imagined almost like a moving shrine, celebrating colour, devotion and the exuberance that Torani stands for. For me, this was not simply an outfit. It was a portrait of a bride - radiant, rooted, and arriving like Lakshmi herself,” he added.

Vijay Deverakonda: The modern Deccan prince

Complementing Rashmika’s vibrant ensemble, Vijay Deverakonda’s look combined regal structure with his signature unconventional style. He wore a structured, full-sleeved bandhgala jacket intricately embroidered with a kaleidoscopic grid of traditional motifs in rust, gold, and green tones, giving the garment a tapestry-like texture.

Underneath, the actor paired a deep forest-green textured kurta with draped blue silk dhoti-style pants, creating a silhouette that balanced heritage and avant-garde aesthetics. A jeweled kamarbandh belt and a layered Polki necklace added ornamental richness to the outfit, while his groomed moustache and traditional tilak completed the striking “warrior-prince” look.

Torani described Vijay’s ensemble as a tribute to Deccan culture and the historic elegance of Hyderabad. “The Deccan Prince ~ @thedeverakonda in @toraniofficial If @rashmika_mandanna’s garment was about radiance, Vijay’s look needed a different energy - grounded, effortless and quietly powerful. Hyderabad carries a layered cultural memory. The elegance of the Nizams, the poetry of Deccan culture, the ease of traditional dressing.

“Historically, men in this region wore garments like the veshti and lungi, draped with dignity yet designed for movement and life. I wanted Vijay’s ensemble to honour that heritage while interpreting it through a Torani lens. A draped veshti paired with a relaxed kurta and embroidered jacket - allowing him to sit, laugh, dance and celebrate freely through the evening. The jacket became a storytelling surface. Tiny embroidered windows held parrots, elephants and peacocks - motifs drawn from Indian temple iconography. The kamarbandh carried handwork and embellishment, reminding us of something we often forget: historically, the Indian man was never minimal. He was expressive, ornamental and proud of craft. This look was our tribute to that legacy. A modern Deccan man. Rooted in history, yet alive in the present,” he shared.

A story told through colour and craft

Stylist Ami Patel further highlighted how the couple’s outfits were designed to visually complement one another. “Twinning and winning the mehendi and prathanam look… Vijay and Rashmika, two halves of the same story. Her lehenga and his jacket jewels tones crimson deep blue and green. The temple arches, the Tanjore inspiration the luminous gold. She’s the colour, he’s the frame. Together, they complete the picture. that’s what I dressed them for. Not the photographs but the feeling.”

Interestingly, the patchwork-rich designs were also said to symbolically reflect the couple’s journey—often affectionately referred to by fans as the “Virosh” story—where multiple cultures, milestones, and memories come together to form a shared narrative. The result was a Mehendi fashion moment that blended tradition, storytelling, and high-fashion craftsmanship into one unforgettable celebration.
