Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava and Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar have emerged as two of the most significant Hindi films of 2025, both in terms of box office performance and audience impact. Despite minimal promotional build-up, the films opened to strong collections and sustained momentum purely on word of mouth, with their patriotic themes striking a chord with viewers.

With both films securing a place among the top 10 releases of the year, conversations have emerged around whether patriotism is gradually becoming a commercial “formula” in Hindi cinema. Addressing this notion, Vicky Kaushal has firmly rejected the idea, calling such a label a disservice to the emotion itself.

In an interview with NDTV, Vicky said, “I think patriotism can’t be a formula, and saying it is a formula is an insult to the emotion. Patriotism is our truth, which we will keep expressing through our movies, literature, and sports. This is our way of saying that we are proud of the diversity, legacy, and truth of our country.”

He added, “I am proud to be a small part of this larger moment where we are fearlessly representing India on the global map.”

Vicky’s remarks come amid the ongoing box office storm created by Dhurandhar. The Ranveer Singh-led film has crossed Rs 535 crore in Hindi alone, surpassing the lifetime collections of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. Its worldwide gross has crossed Rs 750 crore.

Directed by Aditya Dhar and jointly produced by B62 Studios and Jio Studios, Dhurandhar was released on December 5, 2025. In addition to Ranveer Singh, the film features R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt. A second instalment is slated for release on March 19, 2026.
