Nearly three decades after the release of Hero No.1, producer Vashu Bhagnani has revisited one of the film’s most memorable shooting locations in Paris and reflected on the challenges that went into filming the popular song ‘Mohabbat Ki Nahin Jaati’. The song, featuring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor, remains a favourite among fans of the 1997 comedy entertainer and continues to enjoy popularity even today.
Bhagnani recently shared a video on Instagram from the very location where the song was filmed. The post was shared jointly by the producer, his production house Pooja Entertainment, and his children, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshika Deshmukh. Along with the video, the production house wrote, “Did you know? This iconic Hero No. 1 song was shot right here in Paris! And it comes with a sweet memory that @vashubhagnani still cherishes.”
In the video, the producer recalled his experience of shooting in the French capital and the logistical challenges involved in securing permissions for the sequence.
“There are so many beautiful memories attached to this place,” he said while standing at the location. Bhagnani then went on to reveal, “We’d shot a song with Govinda and Karisma Kapoor for Hero No.1. Initially, we had not received permission to shoot this song. The police mentioned the responsibilities. We had to get permission to shoot this song, and we’d hired a boat. And we did a fantastic shoot.”

Released in 1997, Hero No.1 was directed by David Dhawan and starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the lead roles. The film emerged as one of the most successful entertainers of its time and is still remembered for its comedy, music, colourful visuals, and memorable performances.
The soundtrack, composed by Anand-Milind, played a major role in the film’s popularity, with songs such as ‘Sona Kitna Sona Hai’, ‘Saaton Janam Tujhko Paate’, and ‘Mohabbat Ki Nahin Jaati’ becoming chartbusters. The chemistry between Govinda and Karisma Kapoor, coupled with David Dhawan’s trademark humour, helped establish the film as a defining commercial entertainer of the 1990s.
Over the years, Hero No.1 has continued to find new audiences through television reruns and digital platforms. The film is often cited as one of the most iconic collaborations between Govinda, Karisma Kapoor, and David Dhawan, making Bhagnani’s recent recollection a nostalgic treat for fans who continue to celebrate the film’s enduring legacy.
