“Trust me, boys will get all the sympathies here” – Ishita Sharma on PKP

It's raining newcomers. Just a couple of weeks back it was Tia Bajpai with Haunted. Then came Kainaz Motivala with Ragini MMS and this week there is triple bonanza in the offing with as many as three girls getting an opportunity to play a lead protagonist. Ishita Sharma, a Delhi girl, is one of them who is having quite a few nervous moments as she waits for Pyaar Ka Punchnama to hit the screens. After an exchange of 8 SMSes, 4 missed calls and 3 faulty beginnings due to bad network, Joginder Tuteja and Ishita get chatting even as the pretty girl battles her way into her hotel while struggling to get hold of the right suite keys.

Guess boys out there are giving some tough fight by ganging up against girls in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, right?

(Laughs) Totally agree. And to think of it, I am not minding it actually. This is a boy movie and trust me, for a change they are the ones who would be walking away with all the sympathies.

So we may not be playing a heroine-heroine but then we are the only people due to whom all these episodes happen to the boys

Weren't you apprehensive to be playing a leading lady in a film which is basically centred on the boys?
(In a mock annoyed tone) Come on, how can you say that? I think we three women are the driving force behind their life stories. Ok, so we may not be playing a heroine-heroine but then we are the only people due to whom all these episodes happen to the boys. The moment I started looking at the movie from that point of view, I understood the importance of girls being there. From here on it wasn't difficult to ignore the fact that I wasn't playing a conventional heroine.

And in the process you also ignored the colourful language in the narrative as well?
Thankfully I was not the one saying all of that. Now if I was required to mouth even one word of that, I am sure I wouldn't have done the film. But then for the boys out there it was fine actually because it only adds to humour. It is very realistic in fact. After all you can't expect three roomies who have been together for years to go like 'aayo bhai, baitho, paani piyoge kya' and stuff alike.

Why not?
Sorry, woh sab Rajshri waalon ki movies mein hota hai and Pyaar Ka Punchnama kisi angle se Rajshri film toh hai nahi. It belongs to today's times and I am sure lot of people, especially guys, would be able to relate to the film. They will be entertained. I am sure many college boys will come back and say that it is our story. In fact reactions have already started pouring in just on the basis of promos.

Seems like quite a dream journey so far, isn't it?
Exactly. I am someone who is as raw as one can be when it comes to acting skills. I have no acting background and I am not embarrassed to admit that I am still learning. What I have got here is something fantabulous. I couldn't have got anything better. Of course as a newcomer I had my doubts to begin with because other than me there are five other newcomer actors with a fresh director as well. The story too was different from the routine so I was forever keeping my fingers crossed.

Different? But isn't this a straight forward rom-com?
(Smiles) Get ready to be surprised because it isn't! When I heard the script, I thought that it was really intriguing; something which was not a regular slapstick comedy. These love stories are different from what you see in so many movies out there. This one is about how ugly and bad they can sometimes get in real life and still the mood never dulls up right through the film's narrative. It stays on to be light hearted.

Now that the film is all set to release, what's the kind of attention you are getting from the industry?
Guess Friday would decide it all (smiles). I for sure have made up my mind that it is going to be movies for me from this point on. I am quite enthusiastic now. I am all there to put in my blood and sweat and give my 100%. If people think that I have done a good job, I am sure they will give me work. I know that this is just a beginning and I have a lot more to offer.
