Dhurandhar The Revenge, produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, is an unstoppable blockbuster. The earlier part, Dhurandhar (2025), had also overperformed, but the sequel is doing historic business like never before. Interestingly, the Yash-starrer Toxic was all set to clash with Dhurandhar’s sequel. The clash had led to tensions in the trade and exhibition sector as distributors of both the films would have got into an ugly fight over screens.

We asked trade experts what would have happened if Toxic had been released on March 19. Looking at the way Dhurandhar The Revenge is performing at the box office, would Toxic have been at a disadvantage? Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “No one can comment on the content of Toxic as no one has seen the film yet. However, looking at the grip of Dhurandhar 2, I think it was the best decision. Also, dono takkar ki film hai.”
He added, “If both films had clashed, screen-sharing hota aur bahut negativity bhi hoti. The advance would have opened late, as there would have been fights for shows until the last minute. The fans would have also jumped into the picture. Hence, it is better to avoid a confrontation.”
Taran Adarsh further stated, “I spoke to the Toxic’s producer on the postponement and he explained that a lot of South Indians are settled in the Gulf region. Yash enjoys a tremendous following among them, especially after KGF. Hence, they were not ready to lose out on that market and decided to come later.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal opined, “It would have been suicidal for Toxic to clash with Dhurandhar The Revenge. I suspect they realized the buzz for Dhurandhar and very intelligently decided to postpone the release. I always believe that in the business of cinema, there should be no ego.”
Actor-producer Viveck Vaswani explained, “I feel Dhurandhar 2 would have been at a disadvantage. Out of 30 shows in a multiplex, they would have got only 20, while the balance 10 would have been allotted to Toxic. After all, Yash is not a small actor. So, the space of 10 shows of Dhruandhar 2 would have allowed Toxic to have 12 or 13 or even 14 shows since Dhurandhar was quite a lengthy film. As a result, the business of Dhurandhar would have been curtailed by 33% or more, even if Toxic didn’t attract considerable footfalls, as the former’s showcasing would have been lesser. Had Toxic had done well, it would have further caused problems.”

He continued, “As for single screens, they are playing 3 shows right now, at 1:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm. In the event of a clash, they would have given 2 shows to both films. On Monday, multiplexes would have checked which film is doing more numbers and they would have rebalanced the shows accordingly. In the absence of Toxic, Dhurandhar The Revenge enjoyed a one-horse race.”
Satadeep Saha, CEO of SSR Cinemas Pvt Ltd, said, “Both films would have been affected. The showcasing would have been affected. I have not seen Toxic and hence, can’t comment on how the film is. But since we know that Dhurandhar 2 is quite loved, all its shows would have been house full. Yet, it wouldn’t have been able to collect so much. Even Toxic would not have reached its full potential. Hence, both would have been at a disadvantage.”
He also remarked, “This is a very good case study that proves why we should avoid clashes in the future.”
Taran Adarsh raised a valid point while signing off, “Dhurandhar The Revenge is unstoppable. Aur jab ek toofan aata hai, it is always better to stay away. Or else, you’re only going to harm yourself.”
