Tomorrow X Together, also known as TXT, have returned with a new chapter in their musical journey. The quintet released a new mini-album titled minisode 2: Thursday’s Child on May 9, 2022. The group embarks on a new journey of adulthood, after having experienced a tumultuous youth. Like minisode 1 marked a new chapter, minisode 2 follows the footsteps. TXT returns with an unabashed and unapologetic outlook towards the opinions of naysayers. There is an underlying struggle and melancholia in their words and they are beautifully matched with a variation of genres of soft rock to R&B.

TXT’s minisode 2: Thursday’s Child clocked 1.4M units in sales. TXT members also participated in the album making. Beomgyu co-composed with Slow Rabbit and Taehyun contributed to writing ‘Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go’. Yeonjun wrote his own rap for the title track ‘Good Boy Gone Bad.’ Let’s take a closer look at TXT’s new mini-album minisode 2: Thursday’s Child.

1. OPENING SEQUENCE

‘Opening Sequence’ opens the mini-album with a melodious outburst of soft guitar tunes and smooth piano notes. The song introduces the listeners to the album and prepares them for what comes next. Opening Sequence lyrics are quite captivating as they sing about heartbreak – “I'm bleeding painfully, painfully, painfully / You in the faded film, your gaze that erased me.”

2. GOOD BOY GONE BAD

The title song ‘Good Boy Gone Bad’ plucks instances from TXT’s previous releases (“My Tail Wagged At You That's My Past”) and makes an announcement of their changed avatars. The group dances to the tunes of alternative rock and belts out a harmonious tune. Good Boy Gone Bad chronicles the story of a boy who was ‘good’ before but has become ‘bad’ now. The group stick to the punk identity and darker tones with lyrics like, “Put that nail in the coffin over the word forever / You completely changed me when I was fragile” and once again sing about heartbreak.

3. TRUST FUND BABY

Those who are elite are known to have a trust fund set up that would financially help them in the future. Having a trust fund is synonymous to having immeasurable comforts in one’s life. TXT’s ‘Trust Fund Baby’ is a track that speaks about the poor financial and mental condition of the protagonist. The track negates the idea that the protagonist would ever be a trust fund baby. The protagonist frowns over the idea of their ‘poor’ state of being – “Yeah, I know, I know I'm not like them / It doesn't work even if you add and multiply / For me, who's a zero in any capital.”

4. LONELY BOY (THE TATTOO ON MY RING FINGER)

‘Lonely Boy’ is a heartbreak ballad. TXT smartly uses the imagery of needles and tattoos to highlight the painful absence of a promise ring from one’s finger – “A mark was placed where the ring sits / A tattoo called you on the fourth finger.” The song expresses the sorrowful lonely life of the protagonist after the lover has left.

5. THURSDAY’S CHILD HAS FAR TO GO

TXT takes the retro route with ‘Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go’. The song’s progression strikes similar to Blinding Lights by The Weeknd. ‘Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go’ holds deep meaning as it paraphrases the rhyme ‘Monday’s Child’. The song works as a hope for a brighter future and at the same time is also tinged with sadness – “Born to be a Thursday's child / A child has far to go / The days that will wait for me / To tune in with your feet, go.”

TOMORROW BY TOGETHER’s album brings a new chapter in their journey from youth to adulthood. The mini-episode works as a bridge between what was and what will be. It sharpens the appetite of the listeners for the forthcoming storyline. The group never fails to amaze with their new music, and minisode 2: Thursday’s Child is no different. Starting with rock and progressing to retro, TXT gave a glimpse into their artistry as the group graduates not only from their storyline but as individual members as well.
