Tom Cruise’s iconic action-adventure Top Gun sequel titled Top Gun: Maverick is headed to Cannes Film Festival 2022 for screening in advance of its Memorial Day premiere in theaters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount and Skydance’s high-profile sequel, starring Tom Cruise, will screen at Cannes Film Festival before opening in theaters. Top Gun 2 will open in North America on May 27, after beginning its international rollout earlier that week. Paramount declined to comment, but buzz has been growing about the movie making an appearance on the Croisette.
The upcoming feature will mark the first time a Tom Cruise film screens at Cannes Film Festival in 30 years after Ron Howard's Far and Away bowing at the fest back in 1992. This year the Cannes Film Festival will happen from May 17 to May 28.
Director Joseph Kosinski helms Top Gun: Maverick which stars Tom Cruise as Capt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell alongside Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Monica Barbaro, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer, reprising his role as Iceman. The original 1986 film, directed by the late Tony Scott, helped turn Tom Cruise into a Hollywood A-list star.
The film is set for a theatrical release on May 27.
