Netflix’s content slate unveiled on February 3 includes Toaster, a dark comedy that promises an offbeat mix of humour, chaos, and crime, all ignited by something as mundane as a household appliance. Slated to premiere on the streaming platform this year, the film explores how obsession and greed can spiral into murder and mayhem when a miser becomes dangerously fixated on a toaster he once gifted at a wedding.
Directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary, Toaster is positioned as a quirky, layered narrative that thrives on unexpected turns and eccentric characters. The story and screenplay have been penned by Parveez Shaikh, with the screenplay further developed by Akshat Ghildial and Anagh Mukerjee. Ghildial has also written the dialogues, adding a sharp comedic edge to the film’s darkly comic tone. The project is produced by Patralekhaa under her banner, Kampa Film, with Tarun Bali serving as the executive producer.
What sets Toaster apart is its robust ensemble cast, led by Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra, both known for their versatility across genres. They are joined by Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Upendra Limaye, Seema Pahwa, Jitendra Joshi, Vinod Rawat, and Farah Khan, forming a cast that brings together strong comic timing and dramatic depth. The film reportedly unravels a tangled web of secrets and surprises, as seemingly trivial circumstances escalate into a chain of chaotic and dangerous events.
