Actor Taapsee Pannu is steadily expanding her creative footprint in the film industry, moving beyond acting to focus on producing content-driven cinema. Known for backing strong, female-led narratives, Pannu has consistently chosen roles that challenge conventional storytelling, and she is now extending that vision behind the camera.
After making her debut as a producer with the 2022 film Blurr, Pannu is actively exploring new projects that align with her creative sensibilities. Speaking about her approach, she said, “The challenge for me is to find subjects and directors on my wavelength. I am now looking at various subjects and directors. I want to produce the films that I believe in.”
She also opened up about the shift in responsibility that comes with producing. “Because you are the one who’s going to put things together, put the team together, choose the right person to do a certain role; and that gives a sense of responsibility. But it’s also extremely challenging,” she explained. Highlighting the difference between acting and producing, she added, “As an actor, you’re only responsible for your yes or no, but when you become a producer, you’re responsible for getting a yes from everybody and keeping everybody on the same page, which is far more difficult than being just an actor on set.”
Pannu’s transition reflects a growing interest in shaping stories from inception to execution, with a focus on meaningful narratives. While continuing her acting career, she aims to back projects that resonate with her personal and creative beliefs.
Up next, Pannu will be seen in the action-thriller Gandhari, where she takes on the role of a determined mother in a high-stakes, emotionally driven story.
