Taapsee Pannu, who has made waves with her compelling performances on screen, has delivered many remarkable characters and among them was the portrayal of a girl who is a victim of molestation. The 2016 film Pink sparked an interesting debate on a woman’s consent, highlighting the significant issue of women's safety and security. Now that it has been 8 years since the film's release, it not only continues to remain special for its subject, but it also deeply connects with the actress even today.
Taapsee Pannu reveals experiencing bitter-sweet emotions as Pink turns 8; says, “We can’t believe that we are still amidst the battle and struggle of security of women”On the eighth anniversary of Pink, Taapsee Pannu acknowledged the current situation of women's safety in the country while revisiting the film's theme. She said, “8 years back we never knew this small film of ours will find such a big place in the notable films of our country and 8 years after that we can’t believe that we are still amidst the battle and struggle of security of women and their consent. What bittersweet emotion it is for someone who is proud to be a part of this film.”
In an earlier interview about the film, Shoojit Sircar had talked about the film’s intent and the audience. Reflecting on its purpose, he had stated in a conversation that happened when the film released, wherein he had said, “Pink is not a women’s empowerment film, it is a simple narrative of three women. This film is not for the women, who go through such experiences every single day, it’s for the men and the boys.”
Readers would be aware that the film was celebrated for its strong portrayal of characters along with the story line. It not only resonated with the audience but also went on to win the 64th National Film Awards in the category of Best Film on Other Social Issues. In the film, Taapsee played Meenal Arora and received tremendous love for her performance.
She played a significant role in the film which also starred Amitabh Bachchan as their defending lawyer along with Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang in key roles along with Angad Bedi, Piyush Mishra, Vijay Varma in supporting characters.
