Remarkably, Thappad was the last film to be released on the big screen before the pandemic lockdown began. The film received unanimous praise from all quarters and remained in cinemas for two weeks, collecting Rs 33 crore before the lockdown was announced, maintaining its steady growth from the first week to the second.
