Miss Universe 1994 and Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen, recently opened up about an amusing yet memorable incident from her past in an interview with Curly Tales. The actress disclosed that she once missed a crucial Miss Universe dinner due to her unfamiliarity with table manners, shedding light on the challenges she faced during her early days in the limelight.

Reflecting on her historic journey to becoming Miss Universe, Sen recounted her initial struggles with etiquette and social norms. She revealed that shortly after her triumph, she found herself in Mexico City for a Miss Universe dinner, feeling utterly unprepared for the formal dining setting.

In her own words, Sen recalled the awkward moment, saying, “I didn't learn table manners before winning Miss Universe. After winning it, they sent me to Mexico City. I'm 18 years old, I barely speak English. I'm getting it together at that point and Barbara, my travel manager sitting to my right and thereafter beyond Barbara are all men. I'm starving, I'm smiling at my travel manager saying ‘I'm very hungry'. Then I bend over like ‘I'm very hungry Barbara.' She's like, ‘So are they and you're the chief guest, you need to start.'”

The experience left Sen feeling out of place, prompting her to adopt a new approach to dining etiquette. She said, “I felt very out of place, and I don't want to feel that again. One of the things that I learnt was ‘Pet bhar ke kha ke jaao ghar se, taki waha pe jaake khana khane ki utsukta nahi hogi [Eat well at home and then go for an official dinner, so that you won't feel the urge to eat there].' Then you can elegantly say, ‘No more, thank you', and they will assume you follow a strict diet.”

On the work front, Sushmita recently concluded the acclaimed web series, Aarya Antim Vaar. The culmination of the series, released on February 9 on Disney+Hotstar, showcased Sushmita's versatility as an actor. Co-directed by the filmmaker Ram Madhvani and co-produced by Amita Madhvani, Ram Madhvani Films, and Endemol Shine India, the series featured an ensemble cast, including Ila Arun, Sikandar Kher, Indraneil Sengupta, and others.
