Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen has amassed a diverse repertoire of content-driven and commercially successful films over the years. While delving into her journey, Sushmita Sen shared an introspective glimpse, recounting a time when she believed her career was at its end as she walked away from a film project.
In a candid conversation with Barkha Dutt for Mojo Story, Sushmita Sen unfolded her experiences and challenges. She revealed an instance when she had to navigate the intricate balance between her professional commitments and the responsibilities of motherhood. The actress shared a poignant anecdote about a film she was part of, starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. During the film's production, she faced a crucial dilemma when she had to abruptly halt her work and leave the shooting set midway. The reason behind this unexpected departure was her daughter's hospitalization in Mumbai.
The actor said, “Renee needs me to be there. Renee was not very well when she came into my life, she had a medical condition, a very severe one. So, I’m filming all the way in Canada with Akshay and Kareena, and it’s a multi-star cast, dates taken for Canada, and I have this pressure. People as it is are saying she’s not going to take her career seriously because now at 24, she has become (a mother). So, I have a point to prove. I must be there on time, I must do my job, no complaints.”
Sushmita further added, “I got a call from Bombay, my father was babysitting Renee and he said she’s been hospitalised and she’s very serious. I took a flight back, and said, ‘I know this is the end of my career, I’m so sorry.’ They were very nice about it, at least superficially I think, but I left and I came back to my daughter and then saw her through one week of hospitalisation and then ran back to say I’m ready for the job, but the damage was done. So it was tough to be in two three different places.”
Sushmita was last seen in Taali. Directed by Ravi Jadhav and featuring an ensemble cast, including Krutika Deo, Ankur Bhatia, Aishwarya Narkar, Suvrat Joshi, Hemangi Kavi, Meenakshi Chugh, and Maya Rachel McManus, narrates the inspirational journey of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant. The biographical drama made its exclusive debut on JioCinema on August 15.
